Trustee safeguarding obligations: P&R team writes for Governance & Leadership

Bates Wells Braithwaite’s (BWB) Public & Regulatory team have contributed an article on trustees’ safeguarding obligations to the latest issue of Governance & Leadership.

In the February issue of the publication, Claire Whittle and Sophie Lloyd explain how this topic is one of the three key areas of risk highlighted by the Charity Commission, and how December’s guidance from the regulator has significant practical consequences for trustees.

Among other points raised in the article, the authors argue that “even where certain aspects of safeguarding are delegated to others in the organisation, the strategy makes clear that the trustees are expected to have the requisite knowledge, skills and expertise to ensure that their charity fosters a safe environment”.
