Bates Wells appoints new Chief Operating Officer

Bates Wells Braithwaite today announces the appointment of Sally Procopis as the firm’s new Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Impact Businesses

Sally joins Bates Wells Braithwaite from Linklaters where she worked as Divisional Business Manager for the firm’s Global Finance & Projects Division.

In her new role Sally will co-ordinate all our Central Services, which encompasses our Finance, BD & Marketing, HR, IT, Professional Standards & Risks and Operations functions and teams. She will take over from outgoing Partnership Executive Officer Peter Bennett who is retiring from his role after twelve years of service at the firm.

A chartered accountant, Sally previously held senior roles at Futurebuilders England (now The Social Investment Business) and the Big Lottery Fund (and its predecessor the Community Fund). She has also been trustee of a number of charities, namely Relate (Treasurer and Chair of Finance & Audit Committee), the National Deaf Children’s Society (Honorary Treasurer and Chair of Finance, Audit & Risk Committee) and Samaritans (Independent Expert on Audit & Risk Committee).

Managing partner Martin Bunch said: “Sally’s hugely successful track record speaks for itself and I’m sure we will benefit from her previous experience of working with a magic circle firm and other professional services firms. Sally will play a valuable role in helping us to further shape our growth strategy and deliver on its objectives. Additionally her interest in social enterprises and the voluntary sector perfectly complements our purpose and values and will make a positive impact on our offering to clients”.

Sally Procopis said: “This is the perfect job for me. I have admired Bates Wells Braithwaite for many years and this role combines a commercial focus with social impact. I am excited to join a firm that is innovative in so many ways and is working hard to prepare for the future in a changing legal market”.
