On 2 January 2019 the whole of the PM Professional Regulation team, Nicole Curtis (Partner), Geoffrey Hudson (Consultant), Katrina Wingfield (Consultant) and Neil Wilks (Associate) will join Bates Wells’ Public & Regulatory (P&R) team, making it one of the UK legal sector’s most experienced P&R outfits. The PM team brings with it over 40 years of experience in the regulatory field, spanning healthcare, veterinary, legal and accountancy regulatory work.
In Professional Discipline, the PM team is ranked Tier 1 by Legal 500 and Band 2 by Chambers & Partners. A number of the team are also rated as Leading Individuals in Legal 500 or listed as Band 1 lawyers by Chambers & Partners. In the latest edition of Chambers & Partners Katrina is recognised as one of the directory’s Senior Statespeople.
Similarly Bates Wells’ P&R team are ranked Tier 2 in Administrative & Public Law and Professional Discipline by Legal 500. Melanie Carter, Head of Public & Regulatory at Bates Wells is recognised as a Leading Individual by Legal 500 under Professional Discipline and Administrative & Public Law. Melanie is also listed by Chambers & Partners in Band 1 for Administrative & Public Law.
Bates Wells’ established place in this sector has recently been recognised by its appointment to the Crown Commercial Service’s Wider Public Sector Framework and also its appointment, as a key sub-contractor, to its Finance & Complex Legal Services panel.
Aside from increasing the firm’s ability to take on new work in this area, these appointments ensure that the firm is better placed to advise both current clients and the clients whom our Penningtons Manches hires will bring on board. Their arrival also puts Bates Wells in a position where it is able to work for more organisations such as regulators and professional bodies on judicial reviews, the conduct of appeals and many other public law matters.
Martin Bunch, Managing Partner, Bates Wells said:
“We are very excited at this development and what it means for our position in the professional discipline and public law market generally.
“Besides bringing additional experience of public & professional regulatory matters to Bates Wells, our new appointments are a great cultural fit with our existing P&R team and their skills enhance our existing legal capabilities in this area.
“Their arrival underlines the firmwide growth in turnover and headcount that Bates Wells has seen over the past financial year, and greatly increases the capacity of our P&R team to take on new work.
“We are very pleased that they have decided to join us during this period of growth, and all of us at Bates Wells look forward to welcoming them once they arrive in January.”
