In a diary piece for last Thursday’s Times Ed Fennell sets out how these annual awards were established in remembrance of our former Managing Partner, the late Stephen Lloyd, who in life supported early stage projects that have a potential to achieve practical, sustainable social change.
With this in mind, the Stephen Lloyd awards help organisations of this kind to take forward their innovative idea in order to receive the funding and pro bono assistance which will help them to take their work forward. As Philip Kirkpatrick, Deputy Managing Partner at Bates Wells, puts it in Ed’s piece, “these awards are about recognising and supporting social innovators to address social problems, often in novel ways”.
Ed’s piece also refers to this year’s winning entrants, Inside Workout and Breadwinners, both of whom will benefit from wide-ranging pro bono assistance offered by Bates Wells’ people and friends of the firm.
