Chetal Patel, partner in our Immigration team, has recently spoken to Personnel Today and People Management regarding the news that the number of non-EU workers arriving in UK has overtaken the number EU migrants since the Brexit referendum.
The articles discuss how for the first time since 2006, the majority of people migrating to the UK for work are non-EU citizens. This is according to new data published by the Migration Observatory at the University of Oxford.
Commenting on this news, Chetal noted that “the figures for next year are likely to look significantly different when the UK’s new points-based immigration system is introduced.”
She went on to state that “as we get closer to the end of the transition period and the launch of our new immigration system, one can expect the figures to look different this time next year when EU nationals will require a work visa”.
