Our principles are at the core of BWB. It is the basis upon which the firm was founded over 40 years ago and still lies at the heart of everything we do. It describes what we stand for and how we operate as a business. It means that we strive to make a positive difference for our people, our community and our environment and for the public interest. We set ourselves challenging targets in all areas of CR and monitor them to ensure that we really are making a difference.
We are proud to have been the first UK law firm to certify as a B Corp, which formalises our goal to continually break new ground in our commitment to being a socially responsible business
We are founder supporters of the Living Wage campaign, and support Advocates for International Development, Heart of the City, City Action, LawWorks and Legal Sector Alliance.
Our Management Board, led by our Managing Partner, review our CR activities on an annual basis and there are regular discussions about the firm’s CR activities at partner meetings and via our Management Action Group.
The Payroll Giving Quality Mark is an accreditation which recognises and rewards organisations of all sizes for making a Payroll Giving scheme available to their employees. There are five levels of Quality Mark and each level recognises a certain minimum employee participation rate and amount of employer support.

We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to reach their full potential regardless of their background. As part of our commitment to social mobility across the legal sector, BWB runs an Outreach Programme through its Diversity & Inclusion Forum (DIF).
Our key focus is to inspire young people from non-traditional or less-privileged backgrounds to consider a legal career by providing access to our people, our offices and our work.
We partner with specialist charities, social mobility projects and schools to provide these opportunities. Our current projects include:
- One week vacation placements specifically aimed at giving talented pupils from lower income backgrounds a real insight into life as a lawyer - working with PRIME and The Sutton Trust
- Half day workshops where young people who might not otherwise have a similar opportunity can visit our offices and talk to our people about what it’s really like to work at a law firm – working with Brokerage CityLink and National Centre for Citizenship and the Law
- Ongoing mentoring for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, aimed at building their self-confidence and raising their aspirations – working with ReachOut
