Data protection compliance is an increasingly important issue for charities. Recent investigations of charities have highlighted the fact that data protection breaches can be costly and very damaging to reputation and donor confidence.

BWB offers tailor-made and highly practical workshops on data protection compliance. Clients have found these to be invaluable in identifying the practical steps that they can take to reduce the risk of non-compliance.

Participants can choose from a number of topics, depending on the data protection issues that are most relevant to their organisations. These include:

Data Protection Basics - Overview of data protection terminology and most common data protection questions

Fundraising and Marketing –E-marketing, opt-ins, opt-outs, Telephone Preference Service, Mailing Preference Service, major donor fundraising, “unlocking” supporters

Responding to subject access requests – Legal requirements, vexatious requests, using exemptions, interaction with employment law

Data security – Best practice security measures, sharing data with third party providers (including fulfilment houses, website providers and others), data processing agreements

Managing data protection breaches – Containing breaches, notifying individuals and/or the Information Commissioner’s Office, sanctions

We can design our workshops around your requirements and will be happy to cover additional data protection issues which are not mentioned above.

Half-day and full-day workshops are available. A half day starts from £1000 (exclusive of VAT). Training can be provided at BWB or your offices.

All training is carried out by lawyers in the BWB data protection team, who have advised hundreds of charities on all aspects of data protection compliance.
