With the changes to local government funding and in the wake of the Olympics, there are a number of new opportunities for capital projects which will be covered by this session. Graeae Theatre Company’s new building including rehearsal and hire space opened in 2010 and has gone on to win many awards including "Best Project up to 2000m2" at the prestigious British Council for Offices National Awards 2010. This session will look at the planning process and how design can maximise benefits of the project.

Steve Mannix – consultant
Steve has worked in the Arts, lobbying, campaigning and disability sectors for over 25 years. Until 2011 he was Cultural Programme Advisor for London 2012. Whilst working on the games he established several of the projects within the Cultural Olympiad. Steve currently advises on business planning strategy, training and fundraising. Clients include: Hackney Empire, the British American Project, Artillery, DaDaFest (Liverpool) and Ministry of Stories. Steve is particularly know for working on community and capital projects and in advising Greenwich Council on the Tramshed in Woolwich.
Judith Kilvington – Executive Director, Graeae
Judith has been executive director at Graeae since 2006 and managed the £2.6m Capital project from 2007 to 2009 which has provided Graeae with its first permanent home. The building provides rehearsal space, office space and facilities for hire and has a particularly innovative design delivering functional access and thinking way beyond the DDA.
Graeae is a force for change in world-class theatre, breaking down barriers, challenging preconceptions and boldly placing disabled artists centre stage.
Damien Cranny – Head of Design UK at Artillery Architecture and Interior Design
Damien has been at Artillery since 1991 and has a strong specialisation in the not-for-profit sector. Recent clients include: Graeae, the Prince’s Regeneration Trust, Unicef and Southend YMCA.
Sean Egan – partner and head of Arts and Media BWB
Sean has over 20 years’ experience in advising Arts Organisations and is acknowledged as a leading expert in advising on Theatre issues Chambers&Partners and Legal 500. He combines advising on production and financing with governance, structuring and capital projects work. He is a trustee of a number of arts organisations and a regular contributor of articles including those on crowdfunding and alternative models for financing arts organisations.
