Advanced Workshops for 2013 Free Schools

As the opening date for 2013 free schools draws closer, we would like to invite you to an evening of free workshops covering some of the key issues you are likely to encounter.

The workshops will be led by education-specialist solicitors from Bates Wells & Braithwaite and finance and project management experts from PKF (UK) LLP. Opening and closing remarks will be delivered by New Schools Network. There will be an opportunity to ask general questions about school and company matters throughout the evening.

A Staffing, performance management and employment law: How to develop early thinking on delivering the vision of the school through the right staffing approaches. Focus on implementing effective contracts of employment, performance management systems, policies and procedures.

B Governance and company administration: Understanding the company – the first year, understanding the articles of association, meetings, duties of governors and the role of the members.

C Finance and Project Management: Preparing financial plans and planning and undertaking the key finance and operational tasks to prepare and operate an Academy Trust. This will include budget setting, financial systems, audit arrangements, insurance, facilities management and establishing key financial controls.
Understanding the project - identifying and allocating the tasks, timing, problem solving, risk and issues management.

D Premises: Understanding how Academy Trusts will hold their sites and their obligations under any leasehold agreements. Looking at how premises issues tie in to the funding agreement and offering legal advice in relation to property matters.
