Create a dynamic staff-board partnership, have up to date information on governance techniques and find the most effective ways to engage your board.
- How can you have an informed, engaged and appropriately informed board?
- How can you achieve a board that is not under-engaged or over-engaged?
- Building on the practices of Governance as Leadership, this session will explore options for responding to these challenges and utilising leadership approaches and strategies to support, develop and engage the board.
As a peer session, this confidential group setting encourages the sharing of ideas and experiences, as well as the governance models that can help CEO’s along the way. Recent research "Daring to Lead 2011" provides fertile ground for these ongoing dialogues as chief executives work out ways of supporting, working and nurturing their boards.
This seminar starts at 4pm and finishes at 6:30pm followed by networking.
The session will draw on The Practitioner’s Guide to Governance as Leadership: Building High-Performing Nonprofit Boards by Cathy Trower, Ph.D, author of Govern More, Manage Less: Harnessing the Power of Your Non-profit Board.
The Practitioner’s Guide to Governance as Leadership offers a resource that shows how to achieve excellence and peak performance in the board room. Cathy explores the challenges of implementing the governance as leadership model, suggesting ideas for getting started and overcoming barriers to progress. The focus is on the board’s overall performance as a team, information for creating a strong governance culture and understanding what is required of an effective CEO and a chairperson.
This session will be facilitated by Tesse Akpeki and will feature as speaker Aisling Duffy, Chief Executive of Certitude Support
