Chetal Patel, Partner in our Immigration Team, has called on charities to participate in the Migration Advisory Committee’s (MAC) consultation on the future state of the UK’s immigration system.

The consultation will look into how feasible it may be for a points-based approach to be introduced, and will also examine salary thresholds which might be applied to the UK’s immigration arrangements.

Speaking to Third Sector, whose coverage focuses on the wide-ranging scope of this exercise, Chetal urges charities to make their voices heard to ensure that the sector’s views are represented in the consultation’s final conclusions.

Calling on charities to get involved, Chetal says “consultations like this come along rarely and there is a real danger that, by not getting involved, charities will miss out on what is a golden opportunity to determine the shape of the UK’s future immigration system”.

The consultation deadline is 9am on 5 November, and we recommend that all of our charity clients take the time to submit a response to it. You can access the MAC’s consultation page here.
