I am a paralegal in Bates Wells’ Dispute Resolution & Litigation team. I work across the department, assisting my colleagues with a variety of contentious matters, including contractual disputes, debt recovery claims, governance disputes, litigation relating to legacies, and trade mark infringements. I work with specialist colleagues in the Dispute Resolution, Media Disputes, Legacies and Trade Marks teams.

As well as conducting legal research into a variety of issues, I help with drafting legal documents such as claim forms, applications, witness statements and exhibits, and correspondence both before and during litigation. Where Court proceedings are needed (up to and including the Supreme Court, and in specialist courts like the Administrative, Technology and Construction, and Companies Courts) I am also experienced in procedures such as filing and service, and in dealing with Court personnel to make sure things go smoothly. I am also experienced in sourcing and instructing counsel.

  • I assisted with a successful application to the High Court for an injunction to protect trust property, working with counsel on witness statements and supporting documents and dealing with the Court.

The injunction safeguarded a substantial proportion of our client’s assets from misuse, and allowed him to negotiate a settlement worth around £2 million.

  • I assisted with an arbitration brought in the London Court of International Arbitration on behalf of a Russian client, working with counsel on a number of applications, statements and supporting documents from the start of the arbitration up to the final hearing.

Our client successfully obtained an award with a value of about £15 million in respect of monies which he had paid under duress and was entitled to recover (plus interest), or which he was relieved from paying in the future.

  • I assisted with an application to rectify the Register of Companies

Allowing the beneficiaries of a company’s sole director and shareholder to regularise the affairs of the company and inherit her sole share in accordance with the deceased’s will.

  • I have assisted with a major charity and company law dispute, now before the Supreme Court
  • I assisted on a governance dispute between a major national charity and the Charity Commission
  • I have assisted with a claim in the County Court against a public authority for non-compliance with a data subject access request
  • I have experience in drafting and making an application for costs in the Court of Protection after successful proceedings
  • I draft cease and desist letters and later correspondence arising from infringements of a national industry body’s trade marks
  • I assist with instructing counsel and issuing proceedings for the recovery of commercial debts in the County Court and High Court
