I am an associate in the Public & Regulatory team.  I work with public bodies, regulators, charities, membership organisations and professional disciplinary bodies in a variety of sectors.

I provide advice to clients on their legal and regulatory obligations, the development of policies and procedures and the lawfulness of decision making, including issues of statutory interpretation and legal challenges.

My work can involve advice on membership disputes and the fair conduct of disciplinary procedures. It can also involve advising clients on policies and procedures, handling of serious incidents and reporting to relevant authorities and regulators.

Prior to joining Bates Wells, I worked at Hogan Lovells in the Commercial Litigation team, where I principally acted for large corporations, insolvency professionals, financial institutions and high net worth individuals. My work there included acting on high-profile claims with allegations of fraud and bribery and contentious insolvency matters.

  • I have worked with an education provider advising them in respect of a potential judicial review claim against a regulator and drafting pre-action correspondence
  • I assist awarding organisations in relation to institutions acting on their behalf which failed to comply with Ofqual’s General Conditions of Recognition
  • I advised membership organisations on membership disputes, issues relating to potential discrimination, admissions procedures and interpretation of the organisations’ rules and procedures
  • I advise charities in relation to serious incidents, including communications with the relevant authorities and regulators, management of the situation and the charity’s responsibilities going forwards, as well as drafting or updating codes and policies
  • I advised a National Audit Office in respect of the exercise of its powers and interpretation of statutory obligations
  • I’ve drafted various policies for an awarding organisation in fulfilment of its obligations under Ofqual’s General Conditions of Regulation
  • At my previous firm, my work included acting for an FCA-regulated asset management company in its US$75m claim against its former CEO for breach of fiduciary duties and secret commissions. I also acted in the Formula 1 litigation, a high profile claim alleging bribery in relation the sale of the Formula 1 business in 2006
