I am a first year Trainee here at Bates Wells. I am currently in my first seat, in the Dispute Resolution department, where I assist fee earners with a range of contentious issues. I have experience in conducting legal research on various areas of law, interviewing clients, drafting advice, and providing legal and administrative support to fee earners.

Highlights

  • Coalition of charities seeking landmark responsible investment judgment

    I assist with the work involving a coalition of leading charities seeking a landmark ruling on whether and how charities should align their investments with their objects and their duty to provide public benefit through either a Charity Commission reference or a declaration.

  • Objections procedure for the Marine Stewardship Council

    I was the objections paralegal for the Marine Stewardship Council and assisted the independent adjudicators in relation to objections to fisheries getting certified sustainable

  • Supporting Obviam in its emerging markets loan investments

    Obviam is the fund manager for SIFEM (the Swiss Investment Fund for Emerging Markets) and seeks to contribute to sustainable economic growth by investing in high impact investments in emerging and frontier markets. I assisted with the creation of their loan agreement templates, which they now use for their direct loan investments in frontier markets.

  • I have assisted with and provided project management support to an outsourcing project for an independent complaint handling service provider in UK.
  • I have assisted with the incorporation and registration of charities including drafting constitutional documents and applications to the Charity Commission.
  • I have conducted legal research into specialist areas such as impact duties of investors, Donor Advised Funds, Development Impact Bonds, judicial review, local audit, and safeguarding.
  • I have drafted loan and novation documentation.
  • I have drafted client advice in relation to a variety of areas such as the benefits of charitable status and governance advice.
  • I have provided support to the Environmental Impact and Impact Economy sector groups within the firm, including organising knowhow meetings.
  • I have produced internal information updates on Tech for Good, and in relation to social finance and its effects on the charity sector.
