We have a long-standing relationship with Sutton Trust and their Pathways to Law programme. We offer standalone events and host their Year 12 students every year for a week-long work experience programme.
In 2021 we hosted this as a wholly virtual scheme for the first time due to lockdown, which had the added benefit of allowing students from across the country to participate (who would not otherwise be matched with a London firm) including as far apart as Sunderland and Plymouth. We also work with Sutton Trust throughout the year on standalone events such as delivering sessions for their summer conference scheme including drafting and debating skills workshops, a negotiation exercise, and speed networking.
We also host Year 10 pupils from Morpeth School annually; this began as part of the Tower Hamlets Education Business Partnership (THEBP) scheme and has now widened in scope, seeing us visit their school for career days and host virtual seminars.
In 2019 we partnered with the Social Mobility Foundation (SMF) to offer work experience and mentoring and produce a submission for their initiative, the Social Mobility Index, to help us identify more ways to champion social mobility.
Considering a career in law? Bates Wells is committed to improving social mobility and access into the legal profession.
