I’m a Senior Associate in Dispute Resolution & Litigation, and a member of the firm’s Charity Legacies team.

I work with a range of clients – charities, social enterprises, commercial and private ones – and always with the aim of resolving any disputes pragmatically and cost effectively.

Our team advises on a whole host of legal issues. My focus is mainly on resolving contractual disputes of any size (including debt recovery –  small and large) for businesses and individuals, assisting charities and trustees with governance problems and the filing of Serious Incident Reports, and providing general duty of care and liabilities advice, including in relation to Health & Safety Executive or other similar (actual or potential) regulatory investigations.

I am also in our Legacies Team and could help you with any thorny trusts, probate and legacy issues or disputes, including Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependant) Act 1975. I also frequently speak at our Legacies events and seminars.

I am a firm believer in trying to settle disputes at the first opportune stage, wherever possible and in your best interests. I can advise you on settlement strategies and options such as negotiation and mediation with a view to achieving a commercial outcome that suits you.

Although it is often desirable to avoid Court proceedings, where that is not possible or perhaps not the preferred strategic plan, I can also help you bring or defend claims in the County Courts and High Courts.

On a more ‘administrative’ front, I frequently advise on applications to restore (or strike off) companies to the Register of Companies in England and Wales.

  • Dispute Resolution

I helped an education charity in a contractual debt claim to win a Court judgment in its favour and an order for the other side to pay 100% of the charity’s legal costs.

  • Legacies, Trusts, and Probate

I helped a world renowned children’s charity to successfully challenge a professional executor in the management of an estate and to negotiate a reduction on their costs, helping to maximise the charity’s legacy.

  • We worked with an environmental charity in relation to a fraud committed by a senior officer, helping the charity deal with Serious Incident Reporting and governance matters.
  • I advised an international faith based charity on duty of care issues following the fatal injury of a fundraiser.
  • I assisted a trade association on a tricky membership dispute and related appeals procedure.
  • We assisted a care home in its defence of a claim under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependant) Act 1975.
