I joined the Charity and Social Enterprise team at Bates Wells in 2019. I advise on a wide range of charitable matters including governance, fundraising, and grants. I have a particular interest in intellectual property and fundraising, advising regularly on assigning and licensing IP rights, and on fundraising agreements with corporate partners.
I am a member of our health and social care network. I often advise health and social care organisations on governance, taking into account the particular considerations when working in the charity or not-for-profit sectors.
- Registrations I advise on establishing new charities and social enterprises, and on engaging with regulators such as the Charity Commission and Companies House.
- Fundraising I produce suites of fundraising template agreements for various charities to use with corporate partners.
- Intellectual property I work with many organisations on intellectual property arrangements, focusing on how to protect their intellectual property while complying with charity law obligations.
- Grants I advised the Croda Foundation on a grant making programme which involved applying restricted funding for healthcare projects (including improving global access to vaccines and healthcare during the pandemic).
- Trading subsidiaries I set up subsidiaries for charities and advise on good practice for that relationship. I recently carried out a detailed review of the relationship between a charity and its subsidiary and suggested governance improvements.
