I am a Knowledge Lawyer in our Charity and Social Enterprise department. I joined Bates Wells in 2019 and I was an Associate before moving into our Knowledge team. I keep colleagues and clients updated about legal, regulatory, and policy changes and support our lawyers with training and resources. I have a particular interest in governance, intellectual property, fundraising, corporate foundations, and trading subsidiaries.
- Fundraising I am a member of our Fundraising Regulation and Fundraising Tax networks, working with colleagues to ensure we offer excellent fundraising advice and events.
- Donations I prepare resources in relation to the acceptance, refusal, and return of donations. This is an important area for many charities to consider, particularly following the Charity Commission’s recently updated guidance on the topic.
- Knowledge updates Every week, I compile legal, regulatory, and sector updates for charities and social enterprises. We focus on changes from that week which are important to our clients’ work.
- Governance I regularly provide training to colleagues and clients about governance matters such as trustee duties, governing documents, and membership arrangements.
- Intellectual property I have worked with many organisations on intellectual property arrangements, focusing on how to protect their intellectual property while complying with charity law obligations.
