Hosted at the Law Society, the event covered a wide-range of different topics and included a panel discussion which examined the sector’s reaction to the Charity Governance Code. Insights from BWB partners Rosamund McCarthy and Philip Kirkpatrick on the challenges facing the sector with respect to the role of trustees formed the basis of both trade titles’ coverage.

McCarthy was quoted by Civil Society as saying that many people who would make good trustees were put off by the burden of responsibility and regulation.

Likewise Kirkpatrick argued that it is important to balance “the need for continuity and knowledge, and the need for innovation and new ideas, and of course allow for diversity” when deciding whether to extend trustees’ term of office past nine years.
