This event is now over and took place on Wed 08 May 2019
We have all now had the chance to reflect on last year’s safeguarding developments and to develop a clearer understanding of how charities can and should address the challenges involved in safeguarding and people protection. But what are we still grappling with?
With that in mind, the topics for this roundtable will include:
1. Where we are on “safe culture”;
2. DBS checks;
3. complaints handling (including the active encouragement of concern-raising); and
4. how and when to make a serious incident report.
We will be joined by NCVO who is leading the delivery of phase 1 of the Safeguarding Training Fund in partnership with 13 other organisations, which have come together as the ‘Safer Social Sector Partnership’, a project funded by DCMS and the National Lottery Community Fund. This project is focused on facilitating the sharing of expertise and experience, whose aim is to ensure that charities of all types and sizes become safer organisations for everyone. Bates Wells will be working with NCVO to support it over the course of this project. This will be a great opportunity for delegates to contribute to the early stages of the project, as well as to discuss progress so far.
The roundtable meeting on 8 May 2019 will be aimed at charities whose activities are focused within the UK. This topic will be repeated at a roundtable meeting on 29 May 2019 for those charities whose activities include work internationally.
As before, the meetings will be held under Chatham House rules.
