I am a solicitor in the Real Estate department and I act for charities, companies, individuals and public bodies on property transactions of all kinds. This includes acting on acquisitions and sales of premises used for commercial, charitable and/or community-based purposes, lease negotiations, real estate finance, and providing advice on technical aspects of charity property law and other areas.
Prior to joining the department, I completed my training contact at the firm which involved also working in the Charities and Social Enterprise, Public and Regulatory, and Dispute Resolution departments.
- I have acted for a number of charities and for-profit entities acquiring leasehold and freehold premises to use as office space or to carry out their charitable and commercial activities.
- I have acted for commercial lenders in secured lending transactions involving facilities to fund acquisitions and refinancing exercises.
- I have also assisted various charities disposing of their properties (including properties inherited by virtue of charitable legacies), acting on the sale and providing advice to ensure that the disposals comply with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011.
- I have advised a national charity on the property aspects of a restructuring exercise of its regional branches.
- I have provided advice to charitable and non-profit registered providers on the property and regulatory implications of restructuring and/or undergoing constitutional changes.
- I have helped charities unlock tricky title issues for properties they own (such as missing property holding trustees), assisting them in regularising their property portfolio.
