I am an associate in the Charity and Social Enterprise team working with charities and social driven businesses, from international NGOs to household national charities, statutory galleries and royal charter bodies to community interest companies and large membership organisations.
I advise on a wide range of matters including setting up charities and non-profits, governance and regulatory issues, mergers and reorganisations, international operations, and fundraising, grant-making and commercial contracts. I work strategically with clients to help achieve their aims in an efficient, compliant and pragmatic manner.
I trained with Bates Wells prior to qualifying into the Charities and Social Enterprise Team, including a secondment in-house as a contracts manager for a large national research organisation specialising in data science.
- I have advised a number of royal charter bodies on complex projects including restructuring as a charity, amendments to governing documents, grant of a Charter, and the winding up and surrendering of a Charter.
- I advised the charitable arm of a music venue on its structure, charity, brand usage and corporate partnerships, talent partnerships, fundraising and production events.
- I prepared a suite of grant making template agreements for a charity providing grants overseas, including to non-charities operating in high risk jurisdictions.
- I advised a large national campaigning charity on a significant fundraising programme, involving a number of corporate and artist partnerships, donations of artwork and services, and hosting events and auctions.
- I advised on a large scale spin out for an international environmental charity, involving the set up of a new charity and the transfer of assets and liabilities from multiple entities based in a number of jurisdictions, working with local counsel.
- I assisted a charity in reviewing, amending and merging a number of its endowment funds, including making applications to the Charity Commission.
- I regularly advise a large research organisation on its grant making, research projects (including development and dissemination of IP), trading and investments.
- I have advised a number of international NGOs working in a confederated structure, including structuring group operations and putting in place agreements to cover sharing of resources, branding, IP and data.
