The Bill introducing the Independent Football Regulator is currently making its way through the legislative system. It will be operational later this year.

Under the new regulatory framework, all professional football clubs will be required to obtain a licence to participate in English men’s football competitions. The Bill is subject to change, but there are likely to be requirements surrounding financial and non-financial resources, fan engagement structures, corporate governance and potentially community engagement. It is important that clubs start to think about what they need to do to prepare for the licensing regime.

Bates Wells is uniquely well-placed to help, having been integral to the drafting of the new legislation. This year, we will be holding a webinar on getting ready for the regulator and will be preparing packages for clubs to help them prepare for a new footballing landscape.
