I am a Knowledge Lawyer for Bates Wells’ Immigration team. I interpret and share developments in UK immigration and nationality law with the Immigration team, provide training to the team, maintain the team’s knowledge documents and draft thought leadership pieces.
- I provided the team with training, including the higher minimum Skilled Worker eligibility thresholds, the new Part Suitability, routes for Creative workers, and illegal working.
- I prepared strategic advice and training in relation to handling illegal working and Home Office information requests, civil penalties, and in relation to wider sponsor compliance.
- I prepared advice on the immigration aspects of complex mergers and restructurings, including on Home Office reporting and due diligence exercises.
- I prepared advice in relation to the Global Talent and Creative Worker routes for professionals in the Tech and Arts sector.
- I prepared strategic advice in relation to overstaying and reapplication following refusals.
- I prepared representations for the Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association in respect of liaising with the Home Office on policy. I drafted enquiries directly to the Home Office policy team. I drafted a response on behalf of clients to the Migration Advisory Committee’s call for evidence on the Temporary Shortage List in respect of Architect Assistance. I drafted a response on behalf of clients to the Earned Settlement consultation.
- Prior to becoming a knowledge lawyer, I have had extensive experience in advising organisations and individuals on a range of immigration and nationality matters, including:
- advising on the sponsorship aspects of the restructuring of a large multinational company.
- successfully advising on Global Talent visas including the tech and arts spaces.
- successfully submitted a Judicial Review claim in respect of a refused visitor visa application.
- provided extensive strategic advice to organisations and individuals in relation to Brexit and Covid-19.
- successfully advising on discretionary leave to remain outside the immigration rules for multiple victims of a major road traffic crash and their parents and siblings.
- delivered training on the prevention of illegal working for the Immigration Law Practitioners’ Association and contributed to training materials for Practical Law Company. Provided commentary to Lexis Nexis and to multiple trade publications.
