I advise clients in relation to the full range of employment matters and have a particular interest in Employment Tribunal litigation. I have expertise in advising private companies, large public sector bodies and charities, amongst others. I enjoy supporting clients in finding commercial and practical solutions and am used to working with clients to ensure they operate within regulatory limitations.
My previous experience means that I have specific expertise within the healthcare and charities sectors.
- I successfully defended a discrimination claim brought by an agency worker against a large public sector organisation. Following a robust costs warning, I pursued a costs application, and the client was awarded the maximum costs possible in the Employment Tribunal without applying for a detailed assessment.
- I previously advised on the successful negotiation of a settlement in respect of a large scale pay dispute between an NHS Trust and junior doctors and their unions.
- The prevention of sexual harassment in the workplace and safeguarding are important issues for employers. In this context, I have advised employers on numerous occasions in relation to sexual harassment policies, the investigation of allegations of harassment and appropriate sanctions, implementing appropriate restrictions or suspension and matters involving concurrent police investigations.
- In a whistleblowing detriment and automatic unfair dismissal claim, I advised on an application for strike out part way through an Employment Tribunal hearing on the basis that the Claimant had failed to successfully shift the burden of proof. This resulted in the claim being struck out without the need for the Respondent’s witnesses to give evidence.
- I provided employment advice on the management of a GP partners’ sickness absence to ensure that appropriate reasonable adjustments were made and to ensure that the partnership was protected against allegations of disability discrimination. This resulted in the successful negotiation of a settlement following a partnership dispute.
