James has over 30 years’ specialist construction law experience covering a wide spectrum of commercial office/retail, residential and mixed-use construction and development projects for developers, end users, consultants and contractors.
He has particular expertise in the drafting and negotiation of all forms of building and civil engineering contracts (JCT, NEC, FIDIC etc.), development and funding agreements, agreements for construction and grant of lease, professional appointments, warranties/third party rights and related project documentation.
In addition, he advises on all methods of construction procurement including preparing strategic framework and/or partnering agreements/strategies and alliancing contracts.
- Acting for a Community Business Structure negotiating NEC contracts in relation to their wind farm energy project.
- Acting for a College in respect of their redevelopment of college premises and campus.
- Providing various charity organisations with bespoke template Construction documents for use on their development projects, in various sectors including sport, education, urban regeneration, religious and cultural.
- Acting for a major Museum in London for its Energy Centre Contract for the upgrade, construction and redevelopment of its energy generation plant to meet core net carbon neutral requirements.
- Recent residential development work ranging in value from £1m to £25m includes acting for developers in the conversion of central west end London offices into luxury apartments and town houses.
- Drafting Building Contracts, Project Manager and Consultant appointments for the development of B/1 mixed use student accommodation comprising 347 student beds and 2,100sq m of office/retail space in West Hampstead.
