Experience

I am a Solicitor in the purpose and impact team of our Charity and Social Enterprise department and advise charities, corporate and family foundations, not-for-profits and purpose-driven businesses.

I advise on a range of legal issues including structuring, charity registration, incorporation, safeguarding, governance, grant-making, charity conversions and general charity and commercial law matters. This can include working with directors at the initial incorporation stage to support them on choosing the right structure, followed by ensuring they have a strong framework and relationship in place to manage the organisation’s relationship with related entities and its policies up to the operational side of the entity and winding-down.

Additionally, I take an active role in various diversity and inclusion matters within the firm, including my role as an ambassador for our disability and carers network and in organising an event for Holocaust Memorial Day each year.

Highlights
  • Supported the Royal Institute of British Architects with a detailed review of its structure as well as both its UK and overseas governance arrangements.
  • Conducting governance reviews, including on a large international charity and on charities in the arts and culture sector. This has involved conducting interviews with members of staff and trustees, considering composition of the board of trustees and management of conflicts of interests and drafting new policies in line with the client’s needs.
  • Drafting grant agreements and projects work for charities and philanthropists that include consideration of grants to high-risk jurisdictions and navigating DAFs.
  • Supported a very high-profile independent candidate as part of a political commentary and media project which involved advice on candidate compliance.
  • Provided extensive advice to Eclipse Theatre on its wind down and related stakeholder agreements.
