Bates Wells’ M&A team advised long-standing client SDM Holdings Limited on its acquisition of The Chatham Archive & Document Storage Company Limited (“Chatham“).

SDM Holdings is a specialist, offsite premium storage provider to some of the UK’s most well-known brands. Chatham is a records management service business operating in London and the South. The acquisition significantly strengthens SDM Holdings’ position as one of the few remaining independent businesses in the document storage sector.

Bates Wells’ acquisition finance team advised SDM Holdings in connection with securing the acquisition finance from ThinCats, a leading alternative finance provider.

This transaction demonstrates Bates Wells’ M&A and acquisition finance expertise and ability to negotiate with multiple stakeholders in an ever-tightening timeframe.

Marc Chauveau, Managing Director of SDM Holdings, commented:“This is the first time I have been involved in a transaction of this type. The team at Bates Wells were brilliant at taking me through process. Every department at Bates Wells contributed to the success, Mark Tasker headed up the buying team, brilliantly assisted by Matthew Gearing and David Duhig. I have thoroughly enjoyed the journey.”

Bates Wells’ corporate team was led by Mark Tasker (Partner and Head of M&A and Corporate Finance team) and supported by Matthew Gearing (Senior Associate). The acquisition finance team was led by Patrick Keown (Partner and Head of Banking & Finance) and supported by David Duhig (Associate). Karli Hiscock (Partner, Real Estate) led the real estate team.

SDM Holdings received corporate finance advice from Bishop Fleming. ThinCats was advised by Irwin Mitchell.

The sellers were advised by Payne Hicks Beach.
