I am a solicitor in the Dispute Resolution & Litigation team at Bates Wells. I assist both for-profit and not-for-profit organisations with a range of contentious matters, including contract disputes, governance disputes, IP disputes, contentious probate and challenges to charitable legacies, public law and regulatory issues, shareholder / membership disputes, investigations and issues relating to reputation. I have a special interest in sports, media and entertainment law.
Prior to qualification, I gained experience working on more general charity, regulatory and governance matters, corporate, commercial and banking matters including impact focused investments, and advisory and contentious employment matters. During my training contract, I was seconded to the in-house legal team of a medical research charity, where I supported legal counsel with a range of grant funding projects, scientific collaborations and general commercial matters.
Before joining Bates Wells, I worked as an in-house paralegal at an online fashion brand, assisting on Tech & Payments, Corporate Services & Brand Experience, IP, Trade Marks & Brand Protection matters.
- Working with a music and performing arts charitable organisation to successfully defend a claim relating to a member ticketing scheme.
- Assisting clients to defend against the improper use of their Intellectual Property rights.
- Advising a performing arts accreditation body on regulatory and governance matters.
- Advising clients on the merits and weaknesses of breach of contract claims and supporting them to reach resolution.
- Supporting charities in receipt of legacies responding to claims under the Inheritance Act 1975 or challenging a testator’s capacity.
- Defending clients against claims for defamation, including in contexts where statements are made in the public interest.
- Advising charities and sports & leisure organisations on issues arising from allegations of serious misconduct, the instruction of independent investigations and the implementation of investigation findings.
- Supporting charities against accusations of misuse of grant funding from public bodies.
