Parliamentary services

We can help you to use the law to create change. We are one of a small number of firms in the UK with a “Roll A” Parliamentary Agent, expert in Parliamentary affairs and authorised to promote private legislation in Parliament on behalf of clients. Coupled with our Politics, Elections and Campaigning and public and regulatory law practices, this means that we can advise you across-the-piste on Parliamentary matters.

How we can help

Legislative drafting

We can help campaigning groups, charities, MPs and peers to draft legislation or legislative amendments to achieve their policy aims.

Our recent work has included:

  • Drafting private members’ bills;
  • Drafting illustrative legislation to influence / inform discussions with government;
  • Drafting amendments to draft bills as they go through the Parliamentary process;
  • Writing briefings for lawmakers on draft legislation, on behalf of campaigning groups;
  • Challenging the government’s use of powers related to the commencement of legislation;
  • Liaising with Parliamentary authorities about draft bills and amendments;
  • Advice on navigating Parliamentary processes.
  • Advice on reforming company law, to require company directors to prioritise employees and the environment alongside promoting the success of the company;
  • Advice on reforms to the UK constitution and elections law, both in the Westminster and devolved legislatures;
  • Advice on reforms to end-of-life legislation; and
  • Advice to improve accessibility and safety in public spaces.

Statutory bodies and private legislation

If you are governed or regulated by a private Act of Parliament, you are probably making do with outdated or redundant governing documents.

We can help you to interpret them and decide whether it is necessary to update them to reflect good governance.

If they do need an update, we can help you work out how to do this as efficiently as possible. We have expertise in obtaining Parliamentary schemes for statutory charities; and are authorised to promote private Acts of Parliament if that is needed.
